ST-NXP Wireless has been created by bringing together the wireless operations of two of the world’s leading semiconductor companies: STMicroelectronics and NXP. The joint venture between two strong players in the wireless communications semiconductor market combines successful businesses that together generated revenues of around $3B in 2007.

At its formation, ST-NXP Wireless immediately became a top 3 global supplier in this market, with an estimated combined market share of 14% in 2007, more than twice that of the next largest competitor. This makes it one of the few semiconductor companies that have the critical mass, in terms of sales, product range, IP portfolio, R&D capabilities and customer base, required to be a key player in the wireless market, where the winning semiconductor suppliers will be those that can lead on the integration path in cellular roadmap from 3G, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and beyond, as well as multimedia and connectivity.
