Joe Barrett is Senior Director of Strategic Marketing QUALCOMM Europe Inc and Qualcomm Internet Services and is based in London. He is responsible for European marketing strategy, business intelligence and supports European Industry Analyst relations.

Joe joined QUALCOMM in January 2006 as part of the Flarion Technologies acquisition. Prior to that he was at Nokia Networks for 12 years. Joe has been involved in various telecommunications marketing campaigns and initiatives over the past 20 years, from distribution to 3G business strategies. Joe holds an MSc. in Marketing from the University of Glamorgan.

Alan Hadden has 21 years’ experience in the mobile communications industry, and has been President of GSA since its formation in 1998. Previously he was on the senior management team of a PCN/GSM 1800 operator (today called T-Mobile), involved in the start-up, launch, and expansion phases. He assisted with discussions with key stakeholders and overseas regulators to establish 1800 MHz as a mainstream band for cellular and new mobile businesses. He represented the company at the GSM Association and the UMTS Forum. Previously Alan was Industrial Advisor to the UK communications regulator, and represented views influencing regulation and standardisation at national and international level.

Werner Wiedermann, is part of the Business Development team and in charge of Technology and Innovation Management including co-ordination of research programs within mobilkom austria.

Born in Austria, Werner competed his studies of electrical and communications engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, receiving his doctorate in 1985 - at which time he was also active in international research.

Werner has long experience in the field of mobile communication. He started his career in 1986 as an engineer for radio and transmission networks. On the foundation of mobilkom austria in 1996, he took over the management of the area of network planning. Later on he was responsible for systems engineering and mobile service development. Since 2002 he is in charge of mobilkom austria’s innovation and research activities.

He is also a lecturer in telecommunication at the University of Applied Science in Vienna (Technikum Wien).

Kai Sahala has over 15 years of experience in telecommunications. He joined Nokia in 1992. Since then, he has been holding several positions in Fixed Networks, WCDMA System Marketing and Radio Networks Strategic Marketing at Nokia, and is currently heading Radio Access Strategic Solution Sales in Nokia Siemens Networks.
Kai holds a M.Sc. degree in computer science from the University of Helsinki.

Jan Derksen, Ericsson AB Jan Derksen joined Ericsson Holland in 1994 as Product Manager for GSM radio base stations during the Vodafone Holland GSM roll-out. After that, he moved to Sweden to work in the global organization for GSM radio base station sales, working with the early implementations of EDGE. After several different assignments within Ericsson Holland and Ericsson Sweden, he is currently working with Network Solutions in the WCDMA Product Management organization of Business Unit Networks, specially focusing on HSPA. He has his Master of Science degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands.

Matts earned his PhD from Stockholm University and State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1993 and continued with research in the area of Neural Networks at Nordita in Copenhagen.

After a few years at Ericsson developing radio network functionality, he became responsible for UMTS development at Telia Research in 1997. Among other duties he represented Telia in numerous standardization and international operator organizations.

In 1999 Matts moved to Telia Mobile with the Nordic responsibility for UMTS and common VAS platforms.

After the merger between Telia and Sonera, Matts became responsible for the TeliaSonera group mobile network strategies and synergies, work that he continues as Head of Product and Technology Strategy within the Business Area Mobility Services.
