GSA confirms 114 operators in 54 countries have committed to HSPA+ network deployments

June 9, 2010: Widespread market acceptance of dongles, HSPA-enabled netbooks and notebooks, and the rapidly growing smartphone segment have pushed data consumption to unprecedented levels. In a global industry survey organized in 2009 by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), most respondents believed that HSPA Evolution mobile broadband technology (also known as “Evolved HSPA“ or “HSPA+”) would enter the mainstream during 2010, enabling network operators to deliver higher capacities and performance at lowest cost per byte delivered.

Additionally, most stated that they expected 21 Mbps peak downlink (64QAM HSPA) systems would be the most prominent in number and become the new baseline for mobile broadband.

GSA confirms that this expectation is becoming reality with the publication today of the updated Global HSPA+ Network Commitments and Deployments report, which confirms 114 operators in 54 countries have committed to HSPA+ network deployments.

61 HSPA+ systems are now commercially launched in 34 countries. By end 2010, GSA expects that around 95 HSPA+ systems will be in commercial service. (continues after graphic)
